History

Marwari College, Bhagalpur is the First Commerce teaching institute of Bihar, after Kolkata in Eastern India. It was established on 1941 under the stewardship of Rai Bahadur Bansidhar Dhandhania in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Under the stewardship of Rai Bahadur Bansidhar Dhandhania and the guidance of Founder principal Prof. B.N.MUKHERJI, this Colleges started with 3 students from rental building  in 1941 and then after 36 students in1941-1942 session. In beginning, College management Shri Marwari Pathsala Committee contributed a sum of money Rs.26,762.15 and now a days  this college has its own buildings. Just after 3 years in 1944, college started B.Com teaching. In the year 1941 it was first affiliated to patna University for I.Com. Later on affiliated to Bihar university, Muzaffarpur. And then after Bhagalpur University was established in 1960 after bifurcation from the Bihar University which was renamed as Tilkamanji Bhagalpur university in 1993, MARAWRI College became the constituent College of this University in 1st Apil 1970.

A big library building, departmental block, students’ common Room, open air auditorium for games & sports were constructed from the University. The library of the college has more than 60,000 books and journals. There are many societies and academic associations functioning, almost in the entire department.      
Today College is maintaining its march of excellence way ahead of other institutions of the University with over 21 departments of all the three faculties of Commerce, Science and Arts and a strong family of 4400 students and providing technical courses/programmes and other courses of similar nature and proposal.

Shri Marwari Pathsala Committee called as Vittiya Committee has provides partial support in developing the infrastructure of the college.

Co-education College

 

The College imparts teaching in almost all the popular subjects in the faculty of Commerce, Art, Science and Distance learning courses of UG and PG. Vocational and Self-financing courses like B.C.A., Biotechnology, B.B.A, and B.Sc-I.T are also running. Extracurricular activities like games, sports, fine arts, music and drama are the part of curriculum and regular features. NCC, NSS and extension Services are the integral part of  college-life.

The college for the upliftment of academically poor students conducts remedial courses. Prescribed dress code for boys and girls is in vogue. Much emphasis is laid on laboratory work, field trip and excursion, social services through various activities and programmes like literacy campaign, blood donation, child immunization Programmes, AIDS awareness, eye camp, communal harmony and all round development of the personality of students.

The courses of colleges are national standard based on UGC model curriculum. Seminars, Symposium, Conference, interaction, Project and team-work are common features of the institution. The college is well equipped and providing high quality teaching, fair examination and in every sphere, it becomes the top  in the University and show as a model institution. The College tries its best to inculcate among the students the fine human values for enlightment of not only their personality but also their contributions towards the society and the nation at large.
